The Silent Monk Medley

You can’t really read the signs but it’s still pretty awesome and it still makes me giggle.

Merry Christmas Everybody!

Christians are fighting the wrong battle. I don’t think God cares if we say Merry Christmas or not. We will not bring the Gospel or the Kingdom of God just by saying Merry Christmas. Christmas is not Macy’s or Walmarts to keep. They bring savings, Christ brings salvation. Christmas has nothing to do with the greeting. I could care less if someone says Merry Christmas or Happy Holidays.
Christians, if you are serious about keeping Christ in Christmas–perhaps
1. you can follow John the Baptist’s advice in Luke 3:1-18–if you have 2 coats give one to the poor. If you have enough to eat, give some food to someone who is hungry. Don’t cheat someone, overcharge someone, falsely accuse someone or manipulate someone. Perhaps living out the Beatitudes or the greatest commandment would be in order.
2. Go to church on Christmas morning no matter what day it falls on. Christmas is not about family or friends. It is about a broken world, a God who chose to not leave us in our brokenness but instead has come close and made a way for us to be whole.
3. Get a life, for Christ’s sake. Starving children in the world, homeless people sleeping in the cold, people who don’t have food or health care….and we are going to be so petty to complain about how we are greeted. It sounds like spoiled little children.
It is not illegal to say Merry Christmas. I can yell it on a street corner and not be arrested. As for the businesses asking people to say Happy Holidays—that is ok too. I was told what to say when answering phones at work. the companies have a right to say this is what we want to sound like professionally and ask their employees to say that.
